Çekmeköy, Municipal district on the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey.
The district extends over 152 square kilometers of land, combining urban settlements with natural forests near the Keçiağılı Hill region.
The area developed from a small settlement established during Sultan Selim II's reign, where residents worked as lumberjacks supplying wood to Üsküdar.
The municipality maintains eight cultural centers and fourteen libraries that serve the educational and social needs of its 296,066 residents.
Residents access the district through multiple bus lines connecting to central Istanbul, while infrastructure projects continue to improve local transportation networks.
The district transformed from a forest settlement into an urban area with modern housing complexes, including the campus of Özyeğin University.
