Burdur Province, Administrative province in southwestern Turkey
Burdur is a province in southwestern Turkey that stretches between Muğla, Antalya, Denizli, Afyon, and Isparta provinces. It features mountainous terrain throughout, dotted with numerous lakes that define much of the landscape.
The region contains traces of ancient settlements spanning multiple periods, most notably the extensive ruins of Sagalassos from the Hellenistic era. These archaeological remains document long periods of human habitation across the area.
The provincial capital hosts traditional markets where local merchants display regional farm products, textiles, and handcrafted items for daily trade. These markets remain central to how the community connects with surrounding agricultural areas.
The province divides into eleven administrative districts, with Burdur city serving as the central transportation hub for long-distance buses and regional commerce. When planning a visit, account for the spread of settlements and use local road networks to move between areas.
Lake Salda holds mineral formations resembling those found on Mars, making it a research location for geological studies. This unusual composition draws scientists studying how such minerals form in natural settings.
