Gemlik

Gemlik is a coastal town on the Sea of Marmara in Bursa Province, stretching across a substantial area and surrounded by mountains on most sides. The land opens toward the Gulf of Gemlik, creating a setting where mountains and water define the landscape.

The settlement began as the ancient Greek town of Cius, which was later renamed Prusias during antiquity to honor a king. This name change reflects the area's long historical importance.

The area is deeply connected to olive farming, with groves visible throughout the landscape shaping how the place looks. The people here have maintained this farming tradition for generations, and olives remain central to their daily lives and local economy.

The town provides medical services through two hospitals and several health centers available to residents and visitors. Administrative facilities and services are distributed throughout the town center and easy to reach.

The name comes from a specialized Ottoman shipyard that once built galleons for the navy. This maritime connection shaped the town's identity for centuries.
