Hekimhan

Hekimhan is an administrative district in Malatya Province in Eastern Anatolia, spanning across hilly and mountainous terrain. The area includes about 65 neighborhoods with a mix of urban and rural settlements.

The district has a long history reflected in structures from different periods, including a medieval caravanserai from the Seljuk era. Several Ottoman mosques show how the region changed and developed over centuries.

Kurdish and Turkish communities with different faith traditions live throughout the neighborhoods and share the space in their own ways. The coexistence of these groups shapes how people gather, celebrate, and pass on their practices from generation to generation.

The district sits at an elevation of about 1,075 meters (3,527 feet) and is framed by mountains, with some peaks reaching over 2,000 meters (6,561 feet). Administrative services operate from the district center to serve both urban and rural residents.

The district is shaped by varied terrain where mountain ranges and settlement areas create natural boundaries between the many neighborhoods. This geographic layout gives each community its own sense of separation and identity shaped by the landscape.
