Tirebolu, Administrative district in Giresun Province, Turkey
Tirebolu is an administrative district in Giresun Province situated on the Black Sea coast near the Harşit River estuary. The settlement spreads across a hilltop called Ayana, blending coastal lowlands with mountainous surroundings.
The settlement began in the 7th century BC as Tripolis, one of many Greek trading posts along the Black Sea established by the city-state of Miletos. The name shifted when Chepni people arrived in the 13th century and made this area their home.
The town maintains Black Sea traditions through regular gatherings where traditional music and regional dances remain part of community life.
A small harbor here serves the fishing community while road networks connect to larger cities in the region. Various lodging options are available to suit different travel preferences.
The current name comes from Turkish and refers to three hills, reflecting the geography of the ancient Greek settlement that once stood here. This shift shows how landscape features can inspire the naming of places across different cultures and time periods.
