Geyve

Geyve is an administrative district in Sakarya Province, Turkey, situated in a region marked by river valleys and mountain terrain. The landscape spans across hilly areas where the Sakarya River flows through narrow passages between highland ridges.

The territory was inhabited by multiple ancient peoples including Phrygians, Hittites, Lydians, and Romans before falling under Byzantine control and later becoming part of the Ottoman realm. This succession of rulers shaped the settlement patterns and infrastructure visible in the area today.

The neighborhood shows traditional Ottoman-style wooden houses scattered throughout its streets, reflecting how local builders worked with materials and design methods that shaped the region.

The district is primarily agricultural, with large-scale cultivation of fruits like quince, cherry, apple, peach, and grapes across its fields and orchards. The farming rhythm shapes the local economy and landscape throughout the seasons.

The Elvanbey Imarethanesi, built in 1451 as a public kitchen for travelers crossing Anatolia, now operates as a museum within the district. This building shows how the area once served as a stopping point for merchants and pilgrims moving between regions.
