Jiantan Station, Taipei Metro Tamsui-Xinyi line station
Jiantan Station is an elevated metro station in Taipei's Shilin District on the red line of the Taipei MRT. The station has a simple functional design with an elevated structure from which you can see the city skyline beyond the tracks, and it features two levels with a central platform and two side exits.
A railway station stood here since 1915 under the name Miyanoshita Station before it closed in the 1950s. The current metro station opened in 1997 and its dragon boat-inspired architectural design received a design award that same year.
The station takes its name from the nearby Jiantan Park and Jiantan Mountain in the area. It serves as a gathering point for neighbors and visitors, especially in the evenings, where people meet at market stalls and small shops nearby, and you can observe local habits such as respecting escalator etiquette.
The station has bicycle facilities and is easily accessible for pedestrians, with ticket machines, restrooms, and clear multilingual signage to navigate easily. Staff are friendly and helpful if you need questions answered or assistance.
The station was designed with a dragon boat shape, giving it a distinct place among the city's other metro stations. This original architectural choice makes the station visually distinctive and a small local landmark in the neighborhood.
