Bali District, Administrative district in New Taipei City, Taiwan
Bali District is an administrative division in New Taipei that sits along the Tamsui River Estuary, primarily serving as a residential area with access to the waterfront. The district combines urban neighborhoods with green spaces and river views.
The area was known as Pat-lí-hun during the Qing Dynasty and became a rural township following World War II. It gained its current status as a city district more recently.
The name reflects the area's long connection to river trade and fishing communities that once thrived along the waterfront. You can still find traces of this maritime heritage in how locals use the waterfront and the small temples dedicated to sea deities.
The district is accessible via provincial highways and a ferry service from Bali Wharf, making it easy to explore by vehicle or boat. The best time to visit is during mild weather when local markets are most active.
The Shihsanhang archaeological site reveals traces of an ancient settlement whose inhabitants mastered iron smelting. This made it an unusually prosperous prehistoric community for this part of Taiwan.
