Da'an District

Da'an is an administrative division in Taipei, Taiwan, connecting residential areas with business districts across several square kilometers in the heart of the capital. Wide tree-lined avenues run through the area, linking apartment blocks with shopping streets, university buildings and public squares.

The area grew from a village called Daiwan, which was renamed Da'an in the 19th century during Qing rule. After World War II, the district expanded rapidly, transforming from rural fields into a densely built urban zone.

The university in this part of the city fills the streets with students, and small bookshops, cafés and libraries shape the streetscape. The name comes from an old village that once stood where residential blocks and parks now form the landscape.

Fourteen metro stations are scattered across the district, offering connections to all parts of the city so you can easily move between residential and business areas. Shopping streets concentrate along some of the main traffic arteries, where stores stay open until late in the evening.

A large forest park in the middle of the densely built district offers more than 26 hectares (64 acres) of green space with walking paths, an open-air theater and room for sports and rest. Locals use the park daily for jogging, tai chi or simply to relax under the trees.
