Nangang District spans 21.8 square kilometers in southeastern Taipei, bordered by the Keelung River and containing twenty distinct residential villages.
The area transformed from agricultural land with rice paddies in 1735 to an industrial center in 1956, when the Taiwan Provincial Government designated it for manufacturing.
The district maintains strong connections to tea cultivation, with Jiuzhuang tea mountain recognized as the origin location of Pouchong tea production.
The district connects to central Taipei through multiple transportation options, including the Nangang Station which serves both metro and railway systems.
Academia Sinica, Taiwan's premier research institution, operates its main campus within Nangang District, alongside the Taipei World Trade Center exhibition complex.
