Hongmaogang Cultural Park, Cultural center in Siaogang District, Taiwan.
Hongmaogang Cultural Park is a cultural center in Siaogang District, Kaohsiung, built on the grounds of a former fishing village and made up of exhibition halls, outdoor areas, and a waterfront pier. A tower on the site, Gaozi Tower, rises above the surrounding buildings and offers a view over the harbor.
Hongmao Gang Village was a fishing community that stood at the edge of Kaohsiung Port for generations until its residents were relocated in 2007 to allow the container terminal to expand. The park was then built on the cleared land as a way to keep a record of the village's story.
The exhibitions inside the park show objects, photographs, and daily tools from the fishing community that once lived on this site. Walking through the display rooms gives a clear picture of how harbor life looked and felt before the village disappeared.
The park sits close to Siaogang MRT Station, making it easy to reach by foot or by bus from the surrounding area. The paths across the grounds are flat and step-free, so moving around is straightforward for visitors of any age.
Inside Gaozi Tower there is a rotating restaurant where the dining room turns slowly during a meal, gradually shifting the view from the harbor to the open sea. This kind of spinning restaurant is rare in Taiwan, making the tower an unexpected stop for anyone visiting the park.
