紅毛港, Cultural heritage site in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Hongmaogang Cultural Park is a waterfront cultural park in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, dedicated to the life of a former fishing community through several exhibition spaces. These rooms display traditional fishing gear, household objects, and documents from the village that once occupied this land.
Dutch traders named the place Hongmaogang in the 17th century and used it as a trading post because of its position on Taiwan's coast. The fishing village that grew there over several centuries was relocated in 2007 to allow for port expansion.
The exhibitions show how people in this fishing village organized their lives around the sea, from traditional ceremonies to everyday crafts. Visitors can see original objects and photographs that bring the former residents' way of life within reach.
Taking the Kaohsiung MRT to Xiaogang Station is the easiest way to get close, and a shuttle bus runs on weekends to bring visitors directly to the park. On weekdays, the connection is less direct, so a weekend visit works best.
The entire village of Hongmaogang was moved at once in 2007, meaning every household left the same site at the same time. The park was built as a direct response to that collective move, serving as a memorial to a community rather than a record of a distant past.
