Chung Yuan Christian University Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library, Academic library in Zhongli District, Taiwan
The Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library is a six-floor building with a total area of 11,900 square meters (128,000 square feet), housing over 813,000 items including books and audiovisual materials. The facility uses an automated system to catalog holdings and manage resources for users.
Construction of this library began in October 1983 and finished in 1985, designed by architects Wang Chiu-Hwa and Joshua Jih Pan. The building was named after a former university chairman as a way to honor his contributions to the institution.
The fourth floor houses special Christian collections and design materials that visitors can explore, reflecting how the university integrates faith and creativity into its learning approach. This space shows what the institution emphasizes in educating its students.
The building is organized into different sections by collection type and purpose, so checking a floor layout when you arrive helps you navigate efficiently. The space is designed to support both physical browsing and digital research activities.
A dedicated memorial room on the second floor honors the former chairman after whom the library is named, offering visitors a glimpse into the person behind the building's identity. This personal side of the institution's history often goes unnoticed by casual visitors.
