Merefa-Kherson bridge, Railway arch bridge in Dnipro, Ukraine
The Merefa-Kherson railway bridge extends 1610 meters across the Dnipro River, constructed with reinforced concrete and featuring multiple arched spans.
The bridge construction began in 1930 and opened on December 21, 1931, marking a major advancement in Ukrainian railway infrastructure during industrialization.
The structure represents an engineering milestone as engineer Kolokolov introduced monolithic reinforced concrete technology for the first time in bridge construction.
The bridge connects both banks of the Dnipro River, enabling continuous railway transport and supporting regional economic development through improved logistics.
During its construction period, this bridge held the title of the largest arch bridge in Europe, demonstrating Ukrainian engineering capabilities.
