Fayette County, County in central Kentucky, United States
Fayette County is an administrative division in central Kentucky with pastures, fields, and gently rolling terrain. The area is anchored by Lexington, its largest city, and features limestone-based landscapes with interconnected roadways throughout.
The county was established in 1780 and named after French military officer Marquis de Lafayette, who supported American independence. A merger in 1974 created the first consolidated city-county government in Kentucky.
The region has deep roots in horse racing and bourbon production, traditions that still shape daily life and local gatherings. You will notice these elements woven through farms, events, and family activities across the county.
Lexington is the administrative and transportation hub, providing the most access to services and facilities. Visitors can easily navigate the area through good road connections and reach different parts of the county fairly quickly.
The area is world-renowned for its horse farms and the breeding of thoroughbred racehorses, especially around Lexington. This tradition draws equestrian enthusiasts from around the globe who want to see legendary breeding lines in person.
