Lightning Racer, Wooden roller coaster in Hersheypark, US
Lightning Racer is a wooden coaster with two parallel tracks where trains travel toward each other on alternating hillsides. Riders on both sides race through twists and drops, creating moments where the trains pass head-on.
The coaster was built in 1999 by Great Coasters International and opened in May 2000. It became the eighth roller coaster addition to the park at that time.
The roller coaster maintains its position among the top 25 wooden coasters in the Golden Ticket Awards presented annually by Amusement Today magazine since 2001.
Riders must be at least 48 inches tall to board this coaster. All personal items should be secured in lockers before getting on the trains.
The coaster passes through a 128-foot tunnel where trains moving in opposite directions come extremely close to each other. These passing moments create a special thrill that riders on both sides experience together.
