SooperDooperLooper, Steel roller coaster in Hersheypark, United States
SooperDooperLooper is a steel roller coaster at Hersheypark in Pennsylvania featuring a vertical loop that carries riders through 2,614 feet of track with tight turns and sloped sections. The train reaches speeds up to 45 miles per hour (72 kilometers per hour) and climbs 57 feet (17 meters) at the loop, which rises above the surrounding park grounds.
This coaster opened in 1977 as the third steel roller coaster in North America to feature a vertical loop, bringing that ride element design to a regional amusement park. The construction marked a shift in coaster engineering across the United States, showing that complex inversion elements could be built outside major urban parks.
The SooperDooperLooper represents the evolution of American amusement park engineering, becoming a central attraction within Pennsylvania's chocolate-themed entertainment destination.
Visitors must store loose items in free lockers and cannot wear hard braces or casts during the ride. The minimum height requirement is 48 inches (122 centimeters), and riders should expect strong acceleration forces and a brief head-over-heels position during the loop.
The triangular lattice support structure under the loop represents one of the earliest examples of this construction method in modern coaster design. This open framework differs noticeably from the closed box-beam supports that became standard in later builds.
