Cogan House Covered Bridge, Wooden covered bridge in Cogan House Township, United States.
Cogan House Covered Bridge is a wooden structure spanning Larrys Creek with a single travel lane and Burr Truss framing. The bridge connects both sides of a remote valley and allows passage through rural forest terrain.
The bridge was built in 1877 by a mill constructor who assembled the wooden framework at a sawmill site before relocating it to its final location. It survived a major flood in 1889 as the only bridge crossing Larrys Creek, making it the oldest standing covered bridge in Lycoming County.
The bridge represents Pennsylvania's extensive network of covered bridges, with the state containing the highest number of historical covered bridges in 2001.
The bridge is accessible via a rural road and sees light traffic from locals and visitors exploring the area. The surrounding region offers limited facilities nearby, so plan accordingly when visiting.
The bridge was entirely assembled at a sawmill site before being moved as a complete unit to its current location, an unusual construction approach for its era. This method allowed builders to construct a complex wooden structure under controlled conditions before final installation.
