Sky Rocket, Steel roller coaster in Kennywood, US
Sky Rocket accelerates riders from zero to fifty miles per hour in three seconds through electromagnetic launch systems at Kennywood amusement park.
The roller coaster, which opened in 2010, replaced the Turnpike attraction that operated from 1966 to 2009 near the park entrance area.
The installation marked a significant engineering advancement as Premier Rides' first roller coaster utilizing linear synchronous motors instead of linear induction motors.
Riders secure themselves with lap bars that lock at the waist and calves, providing more upper body movement during inversions than traditional shoulder restraints.
Virtual reality headsets became available in 2017, allowing riders to experience an alternative digital environment while moving through the physical track layout.
