Daniel Boone National Forest, National forest in Kentucky, United States.
The forest extends across 708,000 acres of federal land, featuring steep ridges, narrow ravines, and over 3,400 miles of sandstone cliffs in eastern Kentucky.
The Cumberland National Forest received its current name in 1966 to honor Daniel Boone, the explorer who established settlements in Kentucky during the 18th century.
Native American tribes, particularly Cherokee and Shawnee, left archaeological evidence in rock shelters throughout the forest, indicating their long-term presence in this region.
Four reservoirs within the forest boundaries provide opportunities for water activities, while 600 miles of trails accommodate hiking, horseback riding, and outdoor recreation.
The Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Management Area requires hunters to use traditional muzzle-loading firearms, bows, or crossbows instead of modern weapons.
