Mendota Bridge, Deck arch bridge in Mendota Heights, United States
The Mendota Bridge is a road bridge built with thirteen concrete arches that crosses the Mississippi River between Fort Snelling and Mendota Heights. The design uses these multiple arches to support the deck and allow traffic to pass over the water and surrounding landscape.
The bridge was completed in 1926 and held the record as the world's longest continuous concrete arch bridge at that time. Significant renovation work took place from 1992 to 1994, when the deck was widened and raised to accommodate modern traffic needs.
The bridge bears dedication to the 151st Field Artillery regiment, known as the Gopher Gunners, who served during World War I.
Walking or cycling across offers views of the river and surrounding landscape, making it pleasant for getting from one side to the other. Visiting during clear weather provides the best visibility and comfort for enjoying the passage.
From the northern side, travelers can see both the Minneapolis and Saint Paul skylines at the same time as the river flows between them. This dual view is something visitors often miss when simply driving across.
