Carnegie Science Center, Science museum in Chateau district, Pittsburgh, US.
Carnegie Science Center sits on the north shore of the Ohio River and offers more than 250 interactive exhibits across several floors, covering topics such as robotics, space exploration, and physics. The attached Buhl Planetarium and the submarine USS Requin, moored outside the building, add to the experience.
The institution opened in 1939 as the Buhl Planetarium and merged in 1991 with the newly built center to form a single facility. Together, both institutions laid the foundation for science education in the region.
The name honors industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who made his fortune in Pittsburgh and supported education throughout his life. Visitors today often see school groups moving through the halls with teachers, taking part in demonstrations and hands-on sessions.
The center opens Wednesday through Monday from 10 AM to 5 PM and closes on Tuesdays. Admission covers access to all exhibit floors, the planetarium, and the submarine, though separate tickets sometimes apply for special shows.
The roboworld exhibition area is considered the largest permanent robotics display in the world and shows machines performing practical tasks. Nearby stands a detailed miniature railroad that recreates landscapes and towns from western Pennsylvania.
