Peoria International Airport, main airport for and near Peoria, Illinois
Peoria International Airport is a commercial airport in central Illinois serving regional and national routes across the US. It has a single terminal building with gates and standard passenger facilities on both the departures and arrivals levels.
The site was first used as a military airfield in the 1940s and was converted to civilian use after World War II. Over the following decades, the runways and terminal were expanded several times to handle more traffic.
The terminal is compact enough to navigate on foot without difficulty, and the walk from check-in to the gates is short. For pick-ups, using the designated waiting area outside the terminal is a good idea since parking space is limited.
Despite carrying the word "international" in its name, the airport does not typically operate regular scheduled flights outside the US. The designation reflects its infrastructure capacity to receive private and charter flights from abroad rather than scheduled international service.
