2 Columbus Circle, Contemporary art museum at Columbus Circle, Manhattan, United States

2 Columbus Circle is a nine-story building with distinctive terracotta panels and expansive glass walls located at the intersection of Broadway and Eighth Avenue. Inside, four gallery floors showcase exhibitions alongside an auditorium, artist studios, and related display spaces spanning about 54,000 square feet.

Architect Edward Durell Stone designed this building in 1964 as the Gallery of Modern Art. In 2008 it was renovated and reopened as the Museum of Arts and Design, with its original marble exterior replaced by the terracotta panels you see today.

The exhibitions here feature work by craftspeople and designers exploring both traditional and modern techniques. You can walk through the galleries and observe how different materials transform into contemporary art pieces.

The building sits right at Columbus Circle, making it easy to locate and well-connected by public transportation. Plan to spend several hours exploring the different gallery levels at your own pace.

The terracotta panels feature deep grooves that create unusual texture and make the facade appear different depending on the light. This distinctive design replaces the original marble exterior and gives the building its particular character at Columbus Circle.
