Adams Lake State Park, State park in Adams County, Ohio.
Adams Lake State Park is a protected area in Adams County centered around a lake with about 47 acres of water and surrounding woodland. The grounds include trails, picnic areas, and shoreline access for outdoor recreation and wildlife observation.
The state acquired this land in 1950 after the lake was built to supply drinking water to the nearby village of West Union. Converting it to a state park made the area open to the public for recreation.
The land contains evidence of early Native American settlements, with multiple archaeological sites from Adena and Hopewell cultures in the surrounding region.
Fishing is available on the lake, but motorboats are not permitted and only non-powered boats or electric motors are allowed. Good trails and picnic areas make the park easy to access and visitor-friendly.
The park contains a rare dry-prairie remnant where plants like purple coneflower, prairie dock, and blackjack oak thrive in extreme soil conditions. These native species are unusual for the region and show how diverse the local landscape actually is.
