The refuge lands reveal the transformation from agricultural fields and industrial sites to renewed forest areas supporting river valley species.
Visitors can access the refuge headquarters and visitor center in Williamstown, West Virginia, with daily opening hours from sunrise to sunset.
The refuge waters contain 47 species of native freshwater mussels, making it a center for mussel population conservation and research.
