Brewster Building

Brewster Building, Industrial building in Long Island City, New York, United States.

The Brewster Building at Queens Plaza North in Long Island City is a six-story industrial structure with a distinctive clock tower at its center. The building spans a large area and displays typical factory features including thick walls and rows of large windows.

The building was designed in 1910 by architects Stephenson & Wheeler and initially served as a factory for Brewster & Company's carriages and automobiles. During World War II, the facility shifted to manufacturing fighter aircraft.

The building reflects the industrial culture of early 1900s New York, showing how manufacturing shaped the city's identity. Today you can see the sturdy structures and high ceilings that were designed for factory work.

The site now houses office spaces for various companies, including a major airline's headquarters and flexible work facilities. Be aware that this is a private office complex, so access may be limited.

During the war, the facility produced the Brewster Buffalo fighter, an aircraft also used by other nations. This shift from luxury car production to military aircraft shows how quickly the factory adapted to wartime demands.
