Drake Well Museum, History museum in Cherrytree Township, United States.
The Drake Well Museum features exhibits of oil field machinery, historic buildings, and films documenting the development of petroleum extraction methods across 240 acres.
In August 1859, Colonel Edwin Drake and Uncle Billy Smith drilled the first commercial oil well, establishing the foundation of the modern petroleum industry.
The museum collection contains 4,000 artifacts, 2,500 library titles, and 10,800 photographs depicting the evolution of oil extraction techniques and labor practices.
The museum operates Friday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM during winter months between November 1st and April 1st.
A functioning 20 horsepower Olin hit-and-miss engine pumps recirculated petroleum from a reconstructed oil well, demonstrating historical drilling methods.
