Erie Bluffs State Park, State park in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States
Erie Bluffs State Park is a nature preserve covering 587 acres, characterized by tall cliffs along Lake Erie's shore and dense oak forests that cover much of the land. The park includes two developed areas where visitors can access trails and natural features.
The land was acquired in 2004 by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy from Reliant Energy, establishing the site as Pennsylvania's 117th state park. This acquisition marked the beginning of protection for this undeveloped shoreline.
The park serves as a space where people can experience nature on its own terms, with no human infrastructure disrupting the landscape. Visitors encounter a setting shaped by the animals and plants that inhabit it, offering a direct connection to the local environment.
The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset daily, with two access points providing different entry options for visitors. Wear sturdy footwear since the trails and cliffsides involve uneven ground.
Scientists have documented 80 bird species and 19 mammal species within the park, with no invasive animals present. This intact ecosystem remains free from outside biological influences that usually alter coastal landscapes.
