Teshik-Tash, Archaeological site in Surxondaryo Region, Uzbekistan.

The Teshik-Tash cave contains multiple sediment layers with Mousterian artifacts and stone tools, stretching deep within the Bajsuntau mountain range.

In 1938, archaeologist Alexey Okladnikov uncovered a Neanderthal child skeleton in the cave, along with five pairs of Siberian ibex horn cores.

The excavation revealed evidence of early human settlements and possible burial rituals, changing scientific understanding of Neanderthal presence in Central Asia.

The cave requires guided access through local authorities, and visitors should bring appropriate gear for exploring the mountainous environment.

DNA analysis of the skeletal remains confirms distinct genetic characteristics between Central Asian Neanderthals and their European relatives.
