Bình An Cemetery, Military cemetery in Dĩ An, Vietnam
Bình An Cemetery is a large burial ground in Dĩ An containing approximately 12,000 graves arranged in circular patterns around a central monument and an obelisk. A ceremonial road leads upward to a hilltop pagoda, with the main burial area accessible through a walkway behind the structure.
Established in 1965 as Bien Hoa Military Cemetery, this site served as the final resting place for Army of the Republic of Vietnam soldiers until 1975. The grounds remain a memorial to that era of the nation's military history.
Families visit to perform traditional Vietnamese memorial rituals and maintain ties with their deceased military relatives through regular ceremonies. The grounds serve as a place where local communities gather to honor those who passed, reflecting enduring respect for the fallen.
The grounds are easy to navigate with clearly marked pathways connecting different sections, though the slope toward the pagoda requires some climbing. Visitors should allow time for walking, as the site covers significant ground and comfortable footwear is advisable.
A bronze statue called Thuong Tiec depicts a seated soldier holding an M1 rifle, and local tales surround its presence on the grounds. The figure's intense gaze has captivated visitors and inspired various stories passed down through the community.
