Makwanpur District, Administrative district in Bagmati Province, Nepal
The district extends over 2,426 square kilometers of land, featuring diverse terrain from subtropical valleys at 305 meters to mountain peaks reaching 2,552 meters.
Originally named Chisapani District with headquarters in Chisapanigadhi, the area was renamed to Makwanpur in 1982 when administrative functions moved to Hetauda.
The population includes 48 percent Tamang communities, followed by Hill Brahmin and Chhetri groups, with Tamang and Nepali as primary languages.
Hetauda, serving as both district headquarters and provincial capital, connects to other regions through Mahendra Highway and Tribhuwan Rajpath transportation networks.
The district contains Indra Sarovar, the largest artificial lake in Nepal, constructed within a steep valley between Markhu and Kulekhani for hydroelectric purposes.
