Gazivoda Lake

The reservoir stretches across 11.9 square kilometers at an elevation of 694 meters, reaching depths of 105 meters with a volume of 370 million cubic meters.

Engineers completed the construction of Gazivoda Lake between 1973 and 1977 as part of the Ibar-Lepenc hydro system, with funding from Yugoslavia and the World Bank.

The reservoir area contains archaeological findings including a Roman necropolis and medieval structures near the former court of queen consort Helen of Anjou.

The lake supplies cooling water to two power plants generating 92 percent of Kosovo's electricity and provides water resources for agricultural irrigation in surrounding communities.

Medieval tombstones recovered from the lake basin indicate the presence of settlements that existed before the area was submerged during reservoir construction.
