Lgov, Administrative center in Kursk Oblast, Russia
Lgov is a town in Kursk Oblast that sits on both banks of the Seym River. It is located roughly 80 kilometers west of Kursk at an elevation of about 150 meters above sea level.
The settlement, originally called Olgov, first appeared in Russian chronicles in 1152. It gained official town status in 1779.
The town gained literary recognition through Ivan Turgenev's work 'A Sportsman's Sketches', which detailed the local hunting activities in the region.
The railway station serves as a transportation hub with five tracks connecting to destinations across the region. Visitors can expect good train connections to other towns in the oblast and beyond.
A powerful F2 tornado struck the town in September 2022, damaging over 200 buildings across the area. This rare event significantly altered the appearance of many neighborhoods.
