Vankor Field, Oil and gas field in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia
Vankor Field is an oil and gas extraction facility in Eastern Siberia near Igarka that spans across remote and harsh terrain. The infrastructure includes drilling towers, processing plants, and storage tanks equipped with advanced systems to operate in severe climates.
The field was discovered in 1988 and changed hands several times before Rosneft took control in 2003 and began production in 2009. Development became possible through technical advances that enabled economic operations under harsh Siberian conditions.
The field development influenced the regional economy of Krasnoyarsk Krai by creating employment opportunities and establishing industrial infrastructure in remote Siberian territories.
The site is not accessible to tourists and visits are not possible as it operates as an active industrial facility in a remote area. Oil and gas transport pipelines connect the field to distribution networks across Russia.
The facility operates over 1,600 industrial installations in permafrost zones and ranks among the few oil operations that function continuously under temperatures below minus 50 degrees Celsius. These extreme conditions required development of specialized technologies not deployed at such intensity anywhere else in the world.
