Irqah Hospital, hospital in Saudi Arabia
Irqah Hospital is a former medical facility in the Irqah district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The building has plain walls, empty window frames, and long corridors, and much of the structure was destroyed after a fire in 2012.
The facility opened in 1987 as a private clinic with state support and saw its most intense activity during the 1990 Gulf War, when it treated soldiers and sheltered evacuated families. It reopened in 1993 and served the area until it closed in 2001.
The hospital is known in the Irqah neighborhood under its local name and is tied to the memory of families who once used it. Today, the ruined building still draws curiosity from people who grew up hearing stories about it.
The site is not open to the public and access is restricted. The building has serious structural damage, so any attempt to enter carries real risk.
After it closed, the building became the subject of local stories about paranormal activity, which drew repeated visits from curious people. A fire that started during one of these explorations in 2012 destroyed around 60 percent of the structure, and officials declared it beyond repair.
