Mosque of Al-Saqiya

The Mosque of Al-Saqiya is a place of worship in Medina with three domes and a small footprint of about 56 square meters. It displays architectural features from the Umayyad period and sits near the Anbariya train station.

The site held significance in the Prophet Muhammad's life as he prepared for the Battle of Badr at this location. The revelation of Quran verse 8:7 occurred here, marking its religious importance during the early Islamic period.

The name comes from a well that once supplied water to the Prophet and his companions during the early Islamic period. This connection to a vital water source reflects the importance of such resources in the life of the community.

The building sits about 2 kilometers from central Medina and is easily accessible from the Anbariya train station nearby. You will also find the Al Madenah Museum in the area if you wish to explore more about the region's history.

The Caliph Umar performed a special rain prayer here, called Istiqlaa, at the request of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib. This rare religious event shows how the place was seen as a site for extraordinary spiritual moments.
