Qiddiya, Entertainment district in Riyadh Province, Saudi Arabia.
Qiddiya City is a large development project near the Tuwaiq Mountains, around 45 kilometers west of Riyadh, and includes residential neighborhoods, leisure parks, sports facilities, and performance venues. The site spreads across several planned districts built on an undulating plateau facing rugged cliff escarpments.
Construction began in April 2018 as part of Saudi Vision 2030, an initiative to diversify the economy beyond petroleum. The project transforms a previously uninhabited desert plateau into a multi-part leisure and residential center for residents and travelers.
The name Qiddiya comes from an Arabic word meaning power and energy, reflecting the site's intention as a place for sports and recreation. Visitors see how contemporary design incorporates local architectural references at the public squares and leisure facilities.
Highways run west from Riyadh to the site, with the drive taking around one hour, and a future metro connection is expected to provide additional access. The site covers a large area, so visitors should plan for ample walking time and sun protection for outdoor visits.
The Falcons Flight roller coaster at the Six Flags park is designed to become the longest, tallest, and fastest in the world when completed, mimicking the shape of a falcon's flight. The track runs partly over the plateau's cliff edges, offering open views of the desert valley below.
