Il Arslan Mausoleum, 12th-century mausoleum in Konye-Urgench, Turkmenistan
The Il Arslan Mausoleum features a cube-shaped structure topped with a twelve-sided drum and conical dome, decorated with blue tile geometric patterns.
Built in the second half of the 12th century, this monument honors Khorezm Shah Taj ad-Din Abu-l-Fath Il-Arslan, who ruled from 1156 to 1172.
The mausoleum's architectural design combines Central Asian building techniques with geometric patterns that influenced later Timurid-era constructions in the region.
Visitors can reach the mausoleum within the Konye-Urgench archaeological site, which contains multiple historical structures from the 11th to 16th centuries.
The structure stands as the oldest preserved monument in Konye-Urgench, featuring a distinctive conical roof instead of traditional hemispherical domes.
