Yıldız Porcelain Factory

Yıldız Porcelain Factory is a museum in Beşiktaş displaying handmade ceramics, tableware, and decorative objects produced using traditional methods since the 1890s. The collections show hundreds of original pieces that demonstrate the craftsmanship and design evolution of the workshop.

The facility was established in 1891 by Sultan Abdülhamid II as part of Ottoman modernization efforts. After an earthquake in 1894, Italian architect Raimondo d'Aronco rebuilt and redesigned the complex to improve its production capacity.

The factory blends Ottoman artistic traditions with European influences, and you can see how Turkish patterns mix with Western ceramic techniques in every piece on display. This combination reflects the artistic exchange that shaped porcelain production here.

The complex sits on a hilltop in Beşiktaş and is accessible by walking, though some paths are steep. You can spend time observing the workshop areas where artisans continue using traditional hand-crafting techniques.

Every handmade piece carries the signature of the artist who created it and is marked with the year using the Islamic calendar system. These markings make each object traceable to a specific craftsperson.
