San-Tiau-Luen Seaside resort, Coastal resort in Yunlin County, Taiwan.
San-Tiau-Luen is a seaside resort in Yunlin County, Taiwan, set along a flat sandy shore with shallow water. When the tide goes out, large oyster farming areas are exposed along much of the waterfront, giving the coastline a distinctive working character.
Wind erosion and tidal movement shaped the coast over a long period, building up sand dunes and barrier islands before any settlement took root. These natural forces created the conditions that later made oyster farming possible along the shore.
Oyster farming is central to daily life along this stretch of coast, and at low tide workers can be seen moving between the cultivation frames near the shore. The rhythm of tides, rather than any clock, sets the pace of work here.
The resort is most easily reached by car along Route 158A and County Road 160, though local buses from Yunlin also serve the area. Low tide is the best time to visit if you want to see the oyster frames and the shape of the barrier island clearly.
A natural barrier island sits just offshore and was formed by the gradual buildup of sand driven by tidal patterns over many decades. This kind of coastal formation is rarely seen along Taiwan's western shore, making this stretch of coast worth a closer look.
