孫海橋, Suspension bridge in Nantou County, Taiwan
Sun Hai Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning approximately 204 meters across a forested valley in the mountains. The structure features 265 steps and connects two higher elevations with a height difference of about 5,65 meters between its endpoints.
The bridge was completed in 1957 as a turning point for connectivity in Nantou's mountainous landscape. Its construction allowed isolated communities to connect more easily and opened up the region to greater accessibility.
The bridge serves as a meeting point near temples and local markets where visitors experience Taiwan's traditional food and seasonal celebrations.
Visitors should come with sturdy footwear and bring a flashlight, especially on cloudy days or late afternoon visits. The crossing typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, and arriving early in the morning helps avoid crowds and allows for better visibility.
From this vantage point, visitors can see the Changhua Plain below and a distinctive mountain formation that resembles a giant staircase. This view is only possible from this specific location, making it a perspective found nowhere else in the area.
