Atlantic County, County in New Jersey, United States
Atlantic County is a coastal division in southern New Jersey that runs from the barrier islands of the Atlantic shore inland through farmland and pine forests. The area contains several municipalities, ranging from beachfront towns to agricultural communities and rural wooded sections.
The division was established in 1837 when portions of Gloucester County were separated to form a new administrative unit. Mays Landing became the seat of government and continues to house the main offices today.
The county contains Atlantic City with its entertainment venues, while Hammonton maintains its position as a major center of blueberry production.
Two main highways cross the area, linking coastal towns with inland communities and surrounding regions. Visitors can explore both beachfront boardwalks and country roads that wind through farmland and wooded stretches.
The contrast between coast and interior is sharp: sandy beaches lie just a few miles from dense pine forests. Visitors often experience both landscapes in a single day.
