Runaway Mine Train, Steel roller coaster in Jackson, New Jersey
The Runaway Mine Train is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The track follows a mine-themed layout with a chain lift at the start, followed by a series of curves and small drops.
The coaster opened in 1974 as part of Six Flags Great Adventure's first season, built by Arrow Dynamics. In 1995, major mechanical and computer systems were replaced to keep the ride running safely.
The ride is themed around a mining adventure, with decorative elements that create a fictional prospector narrative. Visitors pass through mine-like structures during the journey, which gives the coaster its distinctive storytelling character.
The ride sits inside the park and can be reached from several areas of the grounds. Weekdays and early morning tend to bring shorter waits than weekend afternoons.
In 2019, one train was decorated with handprints from cancer survivors as part of a health partnership. That train remained visible in the park for visitors to see during their ride.
