Viper, Steel roller coaster in Jackson Township, New Jersey
Viper was a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township that featured two inversions, including a heartline roll and a specialized dive loop element. The ride reached speeds of around 48 miles per hour (77 km/h).
The coaster was designed by Japanese manufacturer TOGO and opened in June 1995 at Six Flags Great Adventure. After nine years of declining ridership, it closed permanently in 2004 to make room for a new attraction.
The ride's entrance featured a western desert theme, decorated with props like old wells, desert vegetation, and wooden wagons that created an immersive arrival experience.
Riders had to meet specific height requirements to experience the coaster, which needed regular maintenance like all rides of that era. Specialized parts from the manufacturer were required to keep it operating properly throughout its years in service.
The ride stood out for offering inversions that thrilled riders without being overly intense, appealing to a middle ground of coaster fans. This balanced approach made it a popular choice for those seeking excitement without extreme forces.
