Skull Mountain, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey
Skull Mountain is an indoor steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey featuring a twister track layout with three horizontal helices. The ride reaches speeds of around 33 miles per hour (53 kilometers per hour) throughout its course.
The ride was manufactured by Intamin and opened in 1996 as an enclosed thrill attraction at the park. This project represented a major investment for the resort during that period.
The ride uses tribal music and heavy metal scores combined with strobe lights to create an intense sensory experience for riders.
Riders must be at least 44 inches (112 centimeters) tall with adult supervision, or 48 inches (122 centimeters) to ride alone. Three trains operate simultaneously to keep the line moving throughout the day.
On hot summer days, water flows from the eyes of the large skull structure outside the ride, offering a refreshing cooling effect to guests waiting in line. This clever detail makes the queue experience more comfortable, especially during peak heat.
