Jersey Devil Coaster, Single-rail roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey
Jersey Devil Coaster is a single-rail roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, built by Rocky Mountain Construction. The orange-yellow track runs for 910 meters (3000 feet), stands 40 meters (130 feet) tall, and reaches speeds of 93 kilometers per hour (58 miles per hour).
Construction began in August 2019 with an intended opening in 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. The ride finally opened to the public in June 2021, marking it as the first of its design worldwide at that time.
The ride takes its name from a local legend about a creature from the Pine Barrens, a story that has been part of New Jersey folklore since the 18th century. Visitors moving through the queue see figures and panels that tell this tale, connecting the experience to regional mythology.
Four trains with twelve seats each run on the track, and riders secure themselves using a specialized lap bar. The best time to visit is usually early morning or late afternoon when wait times tend to be shorter.
The first drop falls at an 87-degree angle, followed by three inversions on the single-rail construction. This track system allows the seats to hang freely on both sides, so riders' legs dangle in the air throughout the entire journey.
