Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, Drop tower at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey
Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom is a drop tower at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The tower reaches about 415 feet (126 meters) into the air and features three separate sides that each hold eight riders at a time.
The tower opened on July 4, 2014, and held the world record as the tallest drop tower at its opening. The construction built onto the existing framework of the Kingda Ka roller coaster, which helped reduce building costs.
The ride design incorporates elements from African landscapes, with the queue area positioned near an enclosure housing a group of African baboons.
Visitors must meet a minimum height requirement to ride and should expect speeds of about 90 miles per hour (145 kilometers per hour) during the vertical descent. The free fall lasts only a few seconds before magnetic brakes gently slow the gondolas.
The tower shares its support structure with another roller coaster and offers views reaching Philadelphia on clear days from its height. The queue area passes directly beside an enclosure with baboons, allowing guests to watch the animals while waiting.
