El Toro, Wooden roller coaster in Jackson Township, New Jersey.
El Toro is a wooden roller coaster in Jackson Township, New Jersey, that reaches speeds up to 70 miles per hour (112 kilometers per hour) along a track measuring roughly 4400 feet (1340 meters). The design combines steep descents with sharp directional changes, with the rails mounted on a supporting timber structure.
The roller coaster opened in June 2006 and replaced the earlier Viper ride on the same site. Until 2008, it held the record for the steepest drop on a wooden roller coaster worldwide.
The queue areas display Spanish motifs and southwestern elements that recall traditional carnival grounds. Visitors walk through several sections with timber framing and warm color tones before boarding the train cars.
Two trains with 36 seats each run simultaneously on the track, which helps reduce wait times during busy days. Padded wings on the cars protect riders during lateral movements and add comfort throughout the ride.
The track construction consists of prefabricated segments manufactured with laser technology instead of traditional on-site building methods. This technique allowed for more precise curves and a smoother surface along the entire route.
