Metacomet Ridge, Mountain ridge in Hartford County and Massachusetts, United States.

Metacomet Ridge is a mountain ridge extending roughly 100 miles through Connecticut and Massachusetts with steep cliffs and volcanic basalt formations throughout. Two parallel ridges together create the defining shape of this landform.

The ridge takes its name from Metacomet, a leader of the Wampanoag people in the 17th century who guided his community through conflicts with English settlers. The name preserves a memory of this period of contact and struggle between Native peoples and European colonists.

Long-distance trails running along the ridge connect local communities and serve as places where residents and visitors regularly spend time outdoors together. These paths shape how people experience and relate to the surrounding landscape.

Several state parks and nature preserves along the ridge provide opportunities for hiking and outdoor recreation. The proximity to residential areas makes this location accessible for day trips.

The rock formations date back roughly 200 million years to a time of volcanic activity that shaped the landscape. These ancient rocks create conditions supporting rare plant species and varying climate zones across the ridge.
